About This Blog

Welcome to Correr Es Mi Destino!
I started blogging in 2006 to keep in touch with family and friends back in France. I mostly wanted to post pictures and info about Canada, especially about immigration since I struggled to learn about it myself when I was into the process.
After a couple of posts, I realized I could do much more than that and thus entered the real blogging world. I learned a lot about templates and layout, cursed my computer and Blogger a few thousand times, read other a lot and eventually developed my first Blogger blog. In September 2007, I took another step and moved to self-hosted WordPress.
I named my blog “Correr Es Mi Destino” after a Manu Chao song : ““Clandestino”:
¡ Solo voy con mi pena !
¡ Sola va mi condena !
Correr es mi destino,
Para burlar la ley.
I’ve always loved this song and often listened to it when I was on the road, lost in Latin America.
Correr Es Mi Destino is divided into 9 categories:
- Canadian Life: anything related to my new life under the snow… From bitching about the weather to hockey games and the Stanley Cup, from culture shock to shocking culture, from old Europe to the New Continent, whatever is in my immigrant’s mind.
- Immigration: the whole immigration process to Canada, tips, newcomer’s first steps… Come on enjoy the Maple Leaf country !
- Trends: sometimes, I read the paper and I just don’t get it. Why ? WHY ??? And don’t tell me I’m overreacting, I’m a former anarchist-communist turned left-wing.
- Snapshots: pictures of Canada – a country seen through my eyes. Also travel photography: France, China, Finland, Panamá, Costa Rica, Perú, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Brazil… and more to come I´m sure!
- On The Road: “I traveled the world and the seven seas…“. This sections is subdivided in several trips, such as “Cheese-Eating Surrender Monkeys” (France), “Beijing 2008” (Olympic Games in Beijing)… In Próxima Estación – Esperanza, follow us in Central and South America!
- Working Girl: I’m a young office worker and the world is mine. Well, most of time. The rest of time, I just bitch about work, like everyone else.
- Just Bloggin’: blog fun, memes, interviews…
- En Français: quelques articles en français, principalement reliés au processus d’immigration au Canada (étapes, délais…) et à la politique française.
- 中文: 对!我会说汉语!我学汉语学了十三年了…
I also publish series every Saturday (ten posts in total). So far, there is:
- Canadian-ism (s): what defines Canada? I’m starting a series on our icons, from people to places, from everyday life’s items to sports, from trademarks to customs. Don’t expect anything too deep: this is Canada the way I see it.
- How To Blog: covering the basic of blogging (setting up a self-hosted blog, plugins and widgets, monetizing a blog etc.)
- How To… Canada: how to immigrate in Canada, to work temporarily, to open a bank account, to find a job… all the basics you need to settle in Canada!
- Americana: a series that explores various aspects of life in North America.
- How To… Immigrate To Canada: in this series, I detail the different options to immigrate to Canada, how to make sure an application is processed quickly, what happens after you arrive in Canada… A must read for anyone interested in immigrating to Canada!
- How To… Find A Job In Canada: I’m not a job counselor, and I’m not an expert. But I do know how it works in Canada and I’m hoping to pass along some information that may not be obvious to everyone.
- The Canadian List of Ten: Ten weeks, ten posts, ten lists and one hundred new Canadian things for you, from food to language, from city to weather.
- Ten Immigrants, Ten Interviews: I contacted ten immigrants to Canada, who each have their own story, their own reasons to come to Canada, their own point of view on how life is up North in the igloos. They all answered ten questions, bringing a new perspective on immigration.

Hey, Zhu! Just wanted to drop in and say “Hello”
It’s been a long time. (You may not even remember me but I think you used to visit me back when I was at CuriousVillager.com which was a travel blog.) I’ve since moved to Wordpress and my blog is mostly book reviews now.
Anyway, I hope you’re well!
