The Louvre in Paris is arguably the most famous museum in Europe, but London also offers amazing cultural institutions. I found the British Museum and the Tate Modern absolutely wonderful.
Oh, and they were free (small donations were encouraged). How cool! London 1 – Paris 0.
The British Museum is a museum of human history and culture. Its collection is so extensive that it’s impossible to see it all in a day. One thing I really wanted to see was the Rosetta Stone, the ancient Egyptian artifact stone that provided the key to understand the hieroglyphs. As a translator, I found it fascinating! I also enjoy the modern Chinese art exhibition for that it gave a good snapshot of what current artists in China are working on.
The Tate Modern, the international modern art museum, is an experience in itself—it is located in an old power station. The top of the building offers a great view of St Paul’s Cathedral and the Millennium Bridge across the Thames. The museum has works by Andy Warhol, Picasso, Braque, Roy Lichtenstein… Modern and contemporary art are sometimes very controversial, some like it and some don’t. Yet I think this is a place to visit, it’s definitely one of the most original and people-friendly museums I have been to.
I thought the British Museum was awesome. Room after room of treasures.
I dream about visiting the Britsh Museum!I’ve heard the Victoria and Albert museum is great too!
Salut Zhu,
Iam glad that your trip in continuing after Nantes. Thanks for stopping over my blog and spending a few moments.
I know so well what its like to not have enought time to do everything so no problem that we could not meet.
These museums look great! We never seem to make time for museums when we travel. London being so near, I think that we should try.
Bises xx
Free? Really? Whoa! That’s one reason to visit London! I remember when I was in Washington DC, you should visit that city, the National Mall where all the Smithsonian Museums were lined up are all free as well!
I thought it was so cool to see the Rosetta Stone in person. It was smaller than I thought it would be.
i love the British Museum! terrific shot 🙂
The Latin America piece catches my attention first! That is a very creatvie abstract art! It is awesome- no fee for this wonderful museume!
you take such great photographs. it is because you are a good observer. i love how you show photos side by side, so that we see the similarities in different cultures as much as we see the differences.
and good for the british for making museums accessable to people. yes, museums are expensive to operate and maintain, but they represent human history; it is *our* collective history, all of us.
I have enjoyed catching up with your travels. Love all the photos you took.
Gill in Canada
Those are some great perks to enjoy a visit there! Great pics once again.
It’s a living encyclopedia… While Louvre is more to the arts. The British Museum is dubbed one of the greatest in this world, and the fact that it’s free just adds on to its fab-ness!
My personal favourite is V&A Museum.
But there are many, many more museums full of characters.
Ha ha… You’re not allowed to take photos at Tate Modern.
But if you go to Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea.
You can take as many as you like!
It’s a really, really cool gallery.
