I'm A Legal Alien

I’m sitting at the kitchen table and papers are scattered everywhere. Three black pens on the side, two cups of tea and a pack of cigarettes in front of me. A pile of draft paper on hand and lots of patience. Lots of it.

Exactly two years ago, I was completing my immigration papers to stay in Canada. I was 22 years old .

Overtime Work And The Overreactive Alarm

I’ve never been a morning person. Even though my high school days memories are slowly starting to fade, I still remember my last year. We had to attend classes Monday through Saturday starting at 8:00 am, and everyday was a struggle to get up.

Us And Them

Office workers have always fascinated me. I used to see them in public transportation, early in the morning : guys drinking their daily shot of black java in some kind of fancy spill proof cup; women awkwardly applying another layer of make-up on their face. They looked busy. They looked like they had a goal and shared a common culture of which other were excluded.

Go Sens, Go !

Four hockey fans were climbing a mountain one day. Each was a fan of a different team, and each proclaimed to be the most loyal of all fans of their hockey team. As they climbed higher, they argued as to which one of them was the most loyal of all. They continued to argue all the way up the mountain, and finally as they reached the top, the Canadiens fan hurled himself off the mountain, shouting, “This is for the Great Montreal Canadiens!” as he fell to his doom.

Walking on Thin Ice

February 25, 2007 – 2:14 am | 248 Read this

The stairs were steep and covered by a thick layer of snow, totally buried underneath. I tried to follow in the footsteps left by the guys already on the ice. I took small and careful steps. My goal was to take a picture of the locks viewed from below…

Winterlude started last week in the nation’s capital. Probably the best way to celebrate winter and the waaaay below freezing temperature !
Sculpting ice when it’s — 20C is a Canadian sport… And yes, it’s done with a chainsaw.

Snow Fall !

January 16, 2007 – 3:14 am | 165 Read this

Tried again at 12:00, it was a bit better, although streets weren’t cleared out yet. I love seeing people driving in the snow : people have exactly the same driving pattern (tailgating on the freeway, running red stop lights, overtaking, cutting off), everybody just drive slower. We all look like we’re slow-motion !
