Uncovering An Immigration Job Scam

April 7, 2010 – 11:25 am | 27 Comments

Let’s play detective!
I already talked about job scams. Today, I will show you how to not be tricked by scammers based on a recent example.
A little while ago, I received a comment. The author of the comment was wondering if the job she had applied for was a scam. She pasted a quote of the email she had received. When it saw it, I knew it was fishy.

Stuffs Canadians Don't Like (Part II)

March 15, 2010 – 9:41 am | 19 Comments

Overall, we are in a pretty good mood right now. Canada took gold medal against the U.S.A in men’s hockey at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, Sidney Crosby is now God, the snow is slowly melting and Spring is coming soon. In short, the country is doing fine. But eh, we still have our pet peeves, especially with both the tax season and the construction season coming soon…

I Can Vote!

March 8, 2010 – 11:15 am | 20 Comments

On March 4th, I went to accomplish my duty as a new Canadian citizen: I voted for the first time in Canada at the provincial bylection in Ottawa West-Nepean.I drove to the polling station slightly honored I could now vote. I know, I’m weird.
By comparison, voting in France is more ceremonious. I received my carte d’électeur when I turned 18 and I couldn’t wait to use it.

Stuffs Canadians Don't Like (Part 1)

Everybody knows that Canadians are peaceful and polite people. Yet, I noticed my fellow citizens can be quite annoyed by a few things… that are Canadian in essence.

Disclaimer: this post is to be read with your morning/ afternoon coffee. It is not meant to be taken literally. I know some Canadians are going to disagree (but I’m sure they will apologize about disagreeing).

On Campus (Part III)

February 3, 2010 – 12:27 pm | 23 Comments

The Winter semester started early January, but I can’t seem to put myself into study mode. First, there is my very full-time job. I work in an environment where futile things such as eating and sleeping are almost frowned upon, let alone studying. And then, there is the usual winter blues. Hard to walk to class after a full day of work when it’s cold, windy and pitch black.

Hockey Day In Canada

February 1, 2010 – 12:32 pm | 13 Comments

Last Saturday, Hockey Day In Canada took place throughout the country. You basically had two option: 1) the lazy option, which was to watch the tripleheader of NHL action featuring the six Canadian teams on T.V 2) the brave option, which was to take your gear and go play hockey in the street.

No Prorogation Rally In Ottawa

January 25, 2010 – 10:37 am | 19 Comments

Let me put it this way: Canadians are usually pretty quiet and it takes a lot to have them go down in the streets. But Stephen Harper made it, he managed to anger Canadians enough and have them demonstrate in the middle of the winter. Way to go, Stevie!

A Driver's License Story

January 13, 2010 – 12:46 pm | 22 Comments

I feel super good today. I finally overcame one of my biggest fears: driving. I passed my driver’s license!
I can’t pinpoint the exact moment when I became terrified of driving. My instructor was a fairly old guy, who loved cars and hated people who didn’t fall in love with the Freudian stick shift: “can you feel how smooth it is?” No, I couldn’t. I didn’t care either. To me, driving was getting from point A to point B safely.
