The H1N1 Vaccine Dilemma

October 26, 2009 – 5:56 am | 21 Comments

The news is out: as of today, October 26th, the H1N1 flu vaccine is available in Canada. So, should we get vaccinated? I’m wondering.
I don’t believe in massive conspiracy theories but yet, as your average Canadian, I can’t help being confused by all the mixed information we have been getting so far.

The Office

October 21, 2009 – 4:07 pm | 17 Comments

I have my own office. An office with a door, a desk, a computer, a phone, a whiteboard and drawers. I also have a very cool magnetic pass to get around, one with my picture on it. I have a favorite lunch place and I hate Monday mornings. I got a new job, in the office. I feel like a lucky girl.

No Dark Sarcasm In The Classroom

No Dark Sarcasm In The Classroom

I was almost late for my first class.

I had left home on time but I was lost in the huge campus and none of the students I stopped to ask for directions seemed to know the location of my building. I eventually found it, a couple of minutes before my class was due to start.

5 Canadian Debates

October 7, 2009 – 7:07 pm | 17 Comments

Generally speaking, Canada is a fairly quiet country: strikes and social unrest are rare, unlike in France where I grew up.
That said, each country has its debates and touchy issues that never seem to be solved and are always brought up in the media. Here are the most famous ones in Canada.

The Campus Theory

The Campus Theory

I developed a new theory.
Canada is a capitalist developed country, with plenty of goods available, a reasonably efficient and non-corrupt administration and businesses are quite customers-oriented. However, all this change the minute you step foot on the university campus.

From Teacher To Student

September 30, 2009 – 3:10 pm | 21 Comments

I kept my promise: I wanted some changes in my life and I have slowly been working on that.
I had decided to attend university again. What can I say, I like studying.

But of course, it wasn’t that simple…

10 Clues I Became Canadian

September 28, 2009 – 10:50 am | 18 Comments

I know that I’m still a little bit French, but as time went by, I also adapted to my new home.
Like many in Canada, I embrace the North American way of life while keeping some of my culture. Cultural integration, not assimilation.

The Sweets, The Fat And The Scale

September 2, 2009 – 6:39 pm | 27 Comments

The scale in the corner of the kitchen was taunting me, and one morning, I finally climbed on it. I was just curious, I guess. Barely awake, my eyes still out-of-focus, I blinked several times, trying to bring the scale’s needle into focus. And I gasped.
