Under The Moonlight...

It had been a crazy day in Ottawa. We had woken up to a beau­ti­ful blue sky and sun­shine and had decided to eat out and then go for a walk. But sud­denly, about half-way through my Viet­namese noo­dles, we heard the thun­der. The sky had opened up it was soon pour­ing rain. It quickly turned dark and wind blew the rain hard against the win­dows of the restaurant.

The Kindness Of Strangers

A while ago, I blogged about Four Lit­tle Things and I men­tioned my old Tiger Balm (万金油） that I bought long time ago. Shionge com­mented and offered to send me some from Sin­ga­pore, where she lives — Tiger Balm, although widely used every­where in the world and found through­out Asia, is man­u­fac­tured in Sin­ga­pore, so I guess she’s very famil­iar with it! I thanked her and we exchanged addresses.

Dona Nobis Pacem

Why do we fight today ? Because they attacked us first. Civil war. Bio­log­i­cal war. Because we want to pro­tect our val­ues. Holy war and war gods. Because they have the bomb and they’re not sup­posed to. Pre­ven­tive war, atomic war. Because they tor­ture. War crimes. Because we have weapons to sell. Eco­nomic war. War of attri­tion. Phony war. War games.

Four Little Things

Indeed, I have actu­ally never really moved in Canada. Well, at least not “move” in the real sense of the word. In 2002, I showed up with no more than a back­pack — full of sum­mer clothes since we were com­ing back from South Amer­ica. I did go to France many times since then but I didn’t have much to bring back any­way. My clothes weren’t really Canadian-winter proofed, my books were too heavy and well, we didn’t have a CD play­ers so no point in tak­ing my music col­lec­tion (although I did copy it on my laptop).
