Sicko(s)

July 1, 2007 – 2:58 am | 34 Comments

I like Michael Moore. Sure, his movies are biased but since I’m left-wing, it doesn’t really hurt my feelings. On top of that, being an optimistic person, I do believe his investigations can make waves. But this time, I left the movie theater with mixed feelings. Since I’m familiar with both the Canadian and the French health care system, I knew Moore wasn’t telling us all the truth. And thus I started wondering about the US health system .

What We Sell To Coca-Cola Is Available Humain Brain Time

See, back in France, it was quite simple. I had a small black & white TV with a broken antenna I had to trap between a pile of books and the edge of the couch in order to get a clear reception. I only watched TV when : 1) I was copying Chinese lessons 2) I was drawing 3) I was plucking my eyebrows.Well, yeah. What was I supposed to do ? Watch it ??

Do You Speak English?

May 28, 2007 – 3:27 am | 12 Comments

English wasn’t popular. French don’t like English much (“they put vinegar on chips and eat meat with mint sauce !”), and the relationship with the USA has always been a bit rocky (“these warmongers/ burgers-eaters !”), so there were basically no incentive to learn.

Where I Think Some People Are Just Plain Stupid

While waiting at the garage, I read The Sun, a rag with a lot of bullshit in it. It’s cheap (25 cents) but it’s bad. Really bad. The Sun pet themes are usually : war is good, high taxes are bad, gay marriage is evil, gas is too expensive, anyone who doesn’t speak English or isn’t of English background is a terrorist or an illegal immigrant etc. Come on, I’m talking about a newspaper which call “youths” “punks” !

How To Get Rid Of Telemarketing

May 10, 2007 – 12:38 am | 8 Comments

I’m cooking some red peppers when the phone rings :

- 喂,你好,黄先生系唔系屋企?

I hate bloody telemarketing, especially in Cantonese.

They Did It

May 7, 2007 – 1:53 am | 8 Comments

They did it. They elected the most intolerant, egocentric, selfish, useless politician. He is the new president. I’m definitely staying in Canada.

I Am A Passenger... And I Ride And I Ride

May 4, 2007 – 1:41 am | 7 Comments

I have an ongoing love & hate relationship with cars. I like cars. They hate me.

It all started when I was 17. After I completed the compulsory 50 hours driving ed, I registered for the test.

Us And Them

April 27, 2007 – 1:27 am | 4 Comments

Office workers have always fascinated me. I used to see them in public transportation, early in the morning : guys drinking their daily shot of black java in some kind of fancy spill proof cup; women awkwardly applying another layer of make-up on their face. They looked busy. They looked like they had a goal and shared a common culture of which other were excluded.
