Chinatown In Ottawa

23 September 2009By Zhu 16 Comments

I love ethnic neighborhoods.

I use to hang out in Chinatown a lot in France. As a student of Chinese language, it was the best place to pick up notebooks and 小说 (novels), chopsticks and bamboo baskets to steam dumplings.

Ottawa’s Chinatown is quite small and not as colorful as in other cities. Yet, it’s a great place to go out for a walk, to sample authentic Chinese roasted pork, Vietnamese Pho and Korean Kimchi, to buy noodles, tofu and dried mushrooms.

I like the old houses along Somerset Street, where Chinatown is located. It’s a relaxed and artsy neighborhood where walls and painted and people actually walk around instead of driving.

    That’s pretty.

It’s a bit too fake for my liking though.

Lovely tour! I like going to Chinatown because the crowd, noise and dirt reminds me, strangely, of Indian markets… LOL
