But Québec people value their language so much that it’s almost unpolite to mention it. They would say French copied English too much (we use words such as “week-end”, “parking”, “stop”…). They would say we lost our roots, that they are the original ones.

Now, I can barely hear the accent in the Ottawa region. I’m so used to it… Vocabulary still puzzles me though.

Québec is a nice place, but I would live there myself. I left Europe partially because I always felt that we were carrying world’s history weight on our shoulders. Québec is also turned to the past, rather than the future… It’s motto is “Je me souviens” (I remember) !

But I wanted to stress the fact that Canada is different from Europe, or even the USA. It sounds like it would be easy to blend in, sounds like an easy-going country, lots of immigrants…

True, but Canada also has its own culture. Same as a lot of French go to Quebec and expect it to be France #2 with a different accent.

It’s easy to be a tourist in Canada. It’s tougher to be an immigrant and to become Canadian.
