I'll never forget the group of people my friend and I met on New Year's Eve while celebrating in Inverness, Scotland. Or the woman I talked to at the bar in an Italian restaurant in Chicago. Yes, if one just tries, then meeting people is easy. When I was in Seattle, I became chummy with an Israeli, a Quebecois, a couple of Americans, a Nicaraguan, a Brazilian, and some other people! @Jennie — Same here, I rarely keep in touch. Most of time, I don’t need to, memories are enough.

@Kirsten — Same for me: this is the magic of backpacking! And a great incentive to learn more languages too

@Soleil — Maxime was a fun person, I have great memories of our talk. I can still picture him in my head, almost 8 years later.

@Lizz — It’s different when you travel, because you share bathroom, rooms, kitchens… you feel like you belong to a big happy family.

@Jonathan — It’s exactly that! I love meeting locals obviously, but backpackers are a separate culture themselves.

It really enhances the experience of traveling. After a trip, I remember the cool, idiosyncratic people and their cool lives as much as I do the locale.
