Little Italy was our last stop in Montréal. I wanted to go back to the famous marché Jean Talon, a farmer’s market located in this area.
The open air market is occupied by about 300 vendors, selling fruits, vegetables, cheese, meat etc. There are many other food businesses in the area, including bakeries, fish and meat stores and restaurants.
On a sunny Sunday morning, the place was packed with local families shopping. I couldn’t help noticing how tidy and almost sterile was the market. Compared to most food markets we’ve been to in Latin America or China, this one was extremely clean… almost too clean!
Yet, the colorful stalls and fresh products were worth a visit.
We have Farmer’s Markets in Tulsa several mornings a week. Thy open early in a big parking lot and are gone by noon. The vegetables are picked that morning and the baked goods are still warm. I love the sights and especially the smells as one walks through.

The ‘wet markets’ in my country is not hygienic too. No wonder many youngsters prefer to buy groceries in supermarket.

Wow. I would love to buy that bag of blueberries. I think that is the freshest way one can get them. And really? Purple bell peppers? That is amazing!

last month, i noticed some beautiful blueberries in the food market. of course, as soon as i saw they were from canada, i *had* to buy them. it’s the first time i noticed them for sale here in california. usually we get oregon blueberries. the canadian ones were really big and plump. yummmmm. i made blueberry pancakes. and also put them in my cold cereal. then i went back to the store and bought some more too.

Your posts and photos are inspiring me to do more travel in Canada. You’re discovering parts of our cities I’ve never had the the pleasure (or time) to see while there.
A fresh pair of eyes…. 🙂

Just looking at all the vibrancy of the fruits & vegetables is sending ‘salvating’ vibes into me Zhu…..Gosh…I Love it!!! 😀
@Tulsa Gentleman – I love markets, especially given that I mostly eat veggies and very little meat. In Canada, markets are during the nice season only.
@Nigel Babu – It was a great walk!
@Khengsiong – I guess I’m half and half. Supermarkets are convenient are I use them when I travel too, but markets are also kind of cool. Some of the best food I had was bought in the street…
@Linguist-in-Waiting – I love these unexpected colors – makes food fun!
@Sidney – It does, doesn’t it!
@Seraphine – I now have a craving for blueberries pancakes! That’s a yummy breakfast… I should make some this WE.
@Lizz – I actually bought some apple juice from that vendor and the juince was one of the best I have ever drank.
@Beth – Thank you! I want to travel more in Canada, because after all, I only know Québec, Ontario and Manitoba. What’s your favorite place in our big country?
@Seb – Go swim but beware: you may look like a smurf when you get out!
@shionge – I loved the colors – food is beautiful, isn’t it!
haha, i hope you enjoy your pancakes this weekend, zhu!
those carrots look pretty awesome too. i love carrots that are real sweet. also sweet onions. i guess i have a “sweet tooth” but at least some of the sweet things i like are vegetables!

I’m sorry that I missed you guys, falling so close to our stay in the city.
We feel like going back again of course.Hearing the guests at our Quebec B&B talk, we really want to do a longer trip with a car in future. But, we would love to just do a pause again just for Montreal.
Sorry I missed calling you ; I couldn’t find the time !!

@Seraphine – I’m not a big carrots fan actually, unless they are cooked. Now, bell peppers are my favorite… I can live on them!
@RennyBA’s Terella – Thank you! Veggies are important – I can’t believe they are not part of everybody’s diet!
@barbara – Don’t worry! You had a busy time and so did I. I’m sure we will meet again 😉
I’m glad to hear you liked your trip. I have great memories of Québec city, even though I’ve only been there once.
I really like farmer’s market but I haven’t found one near our home yet. Too bad Jean Talon was far from my house back in Montreal.
Your pictures are very colourful and lively.
Just wanted to say Hi. Will keep coming here now.

Hey Zhu,
Gorgeous market!
I love visiting markets (anywhere in the world)!
You said that this one was too clean: does it at least smell like food or what? (I detest going to markets where the food’s scent cannot be smelled).
Thanks for this awesome visual treat :D!
Have a great week ahead!
Cheers
