Here in London, we also transfer some of our urban squares into temporary ice rinks.
Most of them are going to end soon…

@Shannon — I must admit there are quite a few broken arms around in Ottawa during the winter…!

@Bluefish — I learned to skate in France as a young teen actually. It was like going to disco for us, the music at the skating rink was awesome! But I haven’t skated since I came to Canada.

@Agnes — You have to try it!

@Tulsa Gentleman — Artificial rink are probably the best to learn to skate. The ice in Toronto didn’t look bad, but the one on the Rideau Canal is uneven and can be slushy.

@Seraphine — I’m the opposite. I tried skiing once long time ago and I didn’t like it at all. I feel more steady when I skate… although I haven’t done it in a long long time.

@Sidney — Yeah but when you learn, it’s fun for other people to watch

@Nigel Babu — Nah, huge line-up for rental skates! Plus, I had the camera.

@angelaineurope — I think I should buy my own. Skates are relatively cheap (at least entry level brands) and rental fees can be high.

@Linguist-in-Waiting — Makes sense! But it’s not that dangerous most people don’t skate as fast as hockey players

Wow, there are a ton of people there! I wouldn't have waited in the queue either. Every year I say I am going to skate in front of Hotel de Ville, but I always give up because I hate waiting an hour to do something only relatively fun. who wants to stay at home when you can be outside having fun?
can you believe, i have never skated? well, i rollerskated,
but never on ice. i feel more comfortable skiing.

I have never tried to ice skate. Actually there are not many opportunities to skate here. It does not get cold enough for long enough to freeze up natural waters solid enough to get out on.
