Montevideo was much quieter and much smaller than Buenos Aires, but a great place to relax. The city center, where we stayed, had a lot of colonial buildings, some falling apart, some wonderfully restored. The seaside was equally nice: we walked along the shore, looking at people fishing and kids playing in the water.
We found a strange fountain downtown, which fence had hundreds of locks. Locals told us that lovers were supposed to attach a lock and throw a coin in the fountain, for their love to stay forever blahblahblah. I´m obviously not superstitious but we happened to find a lock at the local mall and well, we locked ourselves… What, it was Valentines day after all!

Oh wow! I can’t decide if I want to sit by the fountain, by the sea, or go to the flea market and fill up on antiques!! How fantastic!
I love the A/C units Zhu (fourth picture) :-))))
Reminds me of Asia.
Aw, that fountain is kind of cute. 🙂
I’ve always thought I would like Montevideo best if I ever go to South America. Uruguay has always been the least corrupt, safest and most progressive (yay gay marriage!) of all the countries. And it looks so warm and sunny… I want that right now! Stupid Alps…
Wooooooo…I love those China. They look so pretty:D
Zhu, what is the tall ornate building in the photo titled “old plaza”? I have never seen that style before. Monteverde looks like a neat place.
Montevideo looks nice in your images !
What a pleasant trip there with nice warm weather 🙂 What a contrast to see the modern building versus the fountains & other buildings 😀
Montevideo is very picturesque!
@DianeCA – That´s why we did all of that! It was a really relaxing place.
@Agnes – Yes, they reminded me of China as well! I don´t know why Agnes, but I can´t access your blog again. Must be on my side…
@Jennie – It´s a cool country, but other are quite progressist as well. The whole continent is switching to the left!
@Bluefish – I wish I could have brought some back, but I was afraid they would break in my backpack.
@Tulsa Gentleman – It is an old plaza! Actually, the building you see at the back was the tallest one in South America for a long while.
@Sidney – It´s a nice city.
@shionge – Theyre are a lot of contrasts in the city, but it makes it interesting.
@Linguist-in-Waiting – Yeah, cool place and great light for pictures.
