The Olympic Torch Relay In Ottawa (1/2)

13 December 2009By Zhu 13 Comments

Fun day. I just wished it hadn’t been – 10C. A bit too cold to spend 6 hours outside taking pictures, but it worthed it.

Today, the Olympic Torch of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics arrived in Ottawa and it traveled all over the city. I walked to Bank Street and waited patiently with the next torch bearer for the current bearer to arrive.

It happened very fast. A few minutes beforehand, organizers made sure the torch was working fine. Passersby cleared the road and the female torch bearer arrived, jogging. Both torches touched briefly and the second one lit up instantly. A last smile, and the guy jogged away.

Much more happened later, at the Parliament Hill Party (to be continued…).

    I think the amazing part is that the bus I think is actually touring along all over Canada! And the fact that all of the torch relay runners are wearing the same clothing from West to East. I can only imagine how different it feels in the snow however!

    I bet it was a great experience just as it was for me. :)

    哈哈…本届的冬季奥运和下届夏季奥运好像都被英国垄断了?!
    太不公平了…

    @Seraphine – :lol: You’re right, I’m sure it was to keep warm! I should have ran with them, I was cold, so cold… I love these events, it’s a photographer’s dream because you get to take pictures of people.

    @Nigel Babu – Twice, already, with Beijing last year!

    @Bluefish – To be honest, there isn’t much going on in Ontario. I’m sure B.C is more marketed… and it’s so expensive to go anyway.

    @Agnes – Thank you!

    @DianeCA – I agree, Norway has the best skiers! But we kick ass at hockey ;-)

    @Beth – Thank you! It was a lot of fun too, everybody was very cheery despite the cold.

    @Seb – I KNOW! I’m suing for false advertising.

    @Tulsa Getleman – Unfortunately, we won’t be attending. First, I have to work and second, flying to B.C and staying there is very expensive, not to mention buying tickets for the games. It was paradoxally easier for us to go to Beijing last year!

    @dyosa – That should be exciting! Are you going to B.C?
