Ottawa Busker Festival

Written by on August 3, 2009 – 12:09 pm15 Comments | 8 Read this

The 17th Ottawa Busker Festival took place in the same street where the Texas Style BBQ was a few weeks ago. Sparks Street was closed and hundreds of people gathered to watch acrobats, jugglers and entertainers.

Oh, and for once, it didn’t rain.

The performers were really good and really engaged the audience, which had quickly gathered in the pedestrian street. Definitely a great place for street photography!

  • Interesting. I didn’t know that busking had its own festival. I always see buskers in cities, although not always. I never saw them in South America, except for Bogota, when there was a guy dressed up in all gold pretending to be a statue. Prague had street musicians near the Castle District, and Vienna had plenty of them too, especially near the St. Stephen’s Cathedral. I never saw any buskers in Budapest nor Copenhagen for that matter. But, if you ask me which city I have been to that have a lot of buskers, then it would be New York City, no questions asked. Just walk around Times Square and there’ll be someone trying to entertain people.

It seems like the weather has been nice in Ottawa :) I really like beaver tail…Do you like it as well? And I also dare that guy to take a plane with his t-shirt on. Hahaha…

Busking is good. It gives ordinary folks to show off their skills.

Singapore banned busking in the past and has now allowed it. The government understand that this is a way to make the city state more lively.

@Linguist-in-Waiting — You are right, not too many busker in Latin America, except maybe Rio where people built huge sand castles for money. Paris and London has the most I think… never been to NY!

@Bluefish — The weather was nice for… 24 hours! It’s back to rain and wind now. Geee, what a summer!

@Khengsiong — You are right, it does make a place more lively. I personally love street performances!

Looks like a fun time! We’ve had a few festivals here but there are lots of people and it’s been hot and I’m not so much in the mood to take photos… :) Great shots and looks like a fun time!
