Cowboys In Ottawa!

Cowboys In Ottawa!

Summer is definitely here: hot and humid weather, checked. People on holidays? Checked. Canada Day and a bunch of cool festivals coming up? Checked. Outdoor BBQs? Checked.

North Americans love BBQ. Well, the tradition is best honored in Southern US, but Canadians like it too. And every year, the Sparks Street BBQ contest attracts a lot of people. Eleven teams from across Canada and the USA “compete” for the best ribs and the best chicken pieces. It is a lot of meat — basically, a vegetarian nightmare.

Sparks Street is right behind Parliament Hill and surrounded by government buildings, so for a lot of people, the event is the chance to pick up something a bit different for lunch. You wouldn’t believe the lineups! Well, I guess the smell of cooked meat makes it hard to resist…

  1. Great pictures!!!! Now allow me to step away for a second, I’m drooling all over the keyboard…

    I respect them very much, but gosh, I will never understand vegetarians! :-)))

  2. @Linguist-in-Waiting – Oh, the dear gentleman is right: BBQ is almost a religion and definitely deserves a contest…! 😆

    @Tulsa Gentleman – A Southerner’s view 😉

    @sir jorge – Yes, and it smelled good too!

    @Nigel Babu – Sorry, I hope you ate already!

    @Gabriel – I don’t think there is such a thing as a vegetarian Argentinian. 😆

    @Seb – I guess it’s just once in a while… to be honest, I didn’t even had anything!

    @Khengsiong – Weird, isn’t it! Canadians are very outdoor people once the winter is gone.

  3. Hey Zhu,

    I see that you are making some changes around your blog…looking good :)!

    LOL this is a nightmare not for veggies but for me too…hell no! But the photos are awesome because you captured everything with such detail that the pork actually looks attractive LOL…

    Cheers

  4. @Baoru – I liked the piggy to, it’s almost like it is happy to be eaten!

    @Max Coutinho – Thank you! Yes, I changed theme… it was time for something fresh. Do you like it? It’s the same kind of design, but cleaner and faster to load I find.

    @Final_Transit – I think I’ll be taking pictures all day 😉

  5. Looks like real Hot stuff and the spare ribs looks delicious.

    Reminds me of that there will be a 4th of July celebration at Vigelands Park in Oslo, Norway this Saturday. I’ll report if I find some hot style there 🙂

  6. MMMMM….I just did a huge BBQ with my friends a few weeks ago. Yes, we Americans (some of us, anyway), love the taste of grilled…anything, actually. Nothing beats charcoal!
