Thanks for the Party... Eh!

Happy birthday Canada… from London!

That’s right: from France, we took the Eurostar (more on that later) and are now in London for a few days. And this afternoon, we stumbled upon the Canada Day celebrations in London, in Trafalgar Square — a huge (unexpected) party!

We had a good laugh when we noticed there were even a Tim Hortons on-site for the occasion, as well as a poutine stall (£5 though!) and a bunch of Canadian flags. It felt like Parliament Hill, just noisier. For some reason, techno music was the music of choice — what, no Tragically Hip, the perfect Canadian band? Oh right, they are in Ottawa, playing at the BluesFest.

You can follow our trip to the U.K here on Flickr: United Kingdom.

    haha the whole world wants to be canadian. it isn’t entirely the fault of tim hortons nor the allure of poutine.
    i’m glad you are having a fun time.
    i want to go to london! *sigh* maybe one day…

    I was there too! How funny! I was there during field hockey games. I’ll post pictures when I get back to Poitiers.=)

    @Poem — It was… unexpected!

    @Nigel — I know, I wasn’t expecting such a big party.

    @Ines — I hope you enjoyed your trip — it’s always nice to go say “hi” to the old continent once in a while ;-)

    @Ghosty Kips — I crashed a 4th of July party once, in Beijing, and it was quite fun too although rather official. You should visit Canada now that you have a passport!

    @Linguist-in-Waiting — I know, the U.K is expensive but 5 pounds for poutine is rather overpriced. Not to mention that poutine is…er… not that great!

    @Seraphine — I think British don’t actually have a national day — that’s what happens when you never have a revolution! :lol:

    @Eileen — Really? How cool! Now, I don’t think I would have been able to spot you in the crowd, it was just so busy!

  • Rich B says:

    that is some pricey poutine! Was there lobster on it?

  • Cynthia says:

    I did not know about that! I guess I know where I’ll be be next July 1st :)
