It’s hot. Like, really hot. Like shit-I-had-no-idea-Canada-could-be-so-hot hot. We are experiencing a heat wave and Dairy Queen is making millions of dollars (an estimation based on the number of sweaty people ordering Blizzard treats at the corner of Baseline and Merivale—fun fact, I never tasted anything from Dairy Queen!).
I can’t exactly show how hot it is so you will have to trust me on that one. But I did take a walk in the Experimental Farm, where corn fields sprouted high plants. Straw was being gathered and I stood there, as fascinated by the big combine harvesters and farming activities as Mark is with big trucks. I’m a city girl and I feel lucky to live by the huge Experimental Farm, in the heart of Ottawa—I get to experience the country’s life without the loneliness and isolation!
Great pictures, really cool perspectives.
Winnipeg had a really gross heatwave last week too, and thankfully my work has AC!
There are four or five days a year when I don’t mind AC. These were the days!
It has cooled here today – hopefully it has with you today too as it has been waayyyy too hot. I am now excited for fall!
It cooled off a bit… I think. Up and down, sunny and cloudy, it’s hard to tell!
It was hot last week too in western Canada, but it has cooled last week-end. And even if it is hot during the day, the night are generally cooler, and it is easy too sleep even without A/C. A simple fan can do the work if it is still a little bit hot. Last month, my escort had an heat stroke when we were loading a big cooling unit.
Ooops, I hit the post button too early.
So it was last month near Houston, Texas. At 7 in the morning, it is already 30 degrees. And because of the gulf of Mexico (damn Mexicans ! ), ambiant humidity cooks you slowly. It is particularly awful.
Oh the irony of getting a heat stroke loading a cooling unit!
I like fans better than AC. And AC can be way too cold… I have to wear jeans in movie theaters here, otherwise, it’s chilly.
The problem is that at 100% humidity and 36 degrees, a fan is completely useless. But this kind of conditions are very uncommon in Canada.
It is always possible to cool down reasonnably with a A/C, but in North America, it is always A/C full power, it is 1) stupid, and 2) uncomfortable.
It’s just that AC makes the air so dry. Can’t stand it!
I like your farm pictures especially the one with the ladybug. I can see why having a good camera is important. I just use a cellphone and it is not going to take any award winning pictures but it is compact and convenient.
What do they do with the corn? Can you take some home?
I grew up on a farm with 5 brothers and lots of animals and I only felt lonely and isolated when I moved to the city. Animals are always good company, I can’t say the same the same for people.
A good lens makes all the difference. I take pictures with my cellphone too for convenience and for memories, but the shutter is way too slow and the wuality isn’t great.
I wish I could take the corn home, but since it is an “experimental farm”, it may not be a good idea…!
Yep it was so hot ! Even my mom said it was too hot for.her and shee could not wait to go back to Ivory Coast where there is a good balance between hot and breezy lol. How ironic !
P.s.: you never tasted anything from Dairy Queen ?? Ummm nope we have to remediate to this ! Next time we meet up, ice cream on me !!
Never! I’m not a big ice cream fan… I find it… too cold??
