After the great freeze, we woke up to the great melt. The weather warmed up overnight and the ice started to melt.
Trees were literally shedding ice. Every blast of wind shook the coated tree limbs. We were lucky, no power line snapped in our neighborhood.
Sidewalks are flooded though, and even though roads are drivable there’s still ice everywhere. It doesn’t just look like winter, it feels like it too. I’m getting cabin fever… it’s tough to be trapped at home.
Oh wow, very pretty. Beautiful, really. Snow makes everything look so pretty, and Zhu, you make winter look good. 🙂

Your photos are great and a good documentation. It was a big change though and a bit off winter weather.
In Oslo, Norway we still have winter weather; more snow since my last post and the weather forecast for the coming days says -20C.
We are at our vacation home in Sweden (same weather) and it’s suppose to be clear sky at New Years Eve. That’s great since we are shooting off our own fireworks you know 🙂

Wondering if the power lines will become brittle under low temperature, LOL…
Very interesting photos – to a person who lives in tropical country, at least. Thanks for sharing!

I see a guy with a snowblower, so when we move there I can bring mine! Sounds petty but I hate shovelling and if there’s a lot it’s a real back killer. In my line of work -if you injure your back, you can’t work.
I don’t think people who don’t have snow know what shovelling for hours is like. It’s like working in a mine…
Winter ice and snow is both the good news and the bad news. We got enough Christmas Eve that it is still on the ground although beginning to melt. It is good weather to stay inside and stay warm. Or go outside and build a snowman.

promise me one thing zhu. when the sun comes out, and the trees make leaves again, and little birds sing and when love fills the air, you will post photographs of those too. because all that ice makes me cold. brrr.

As it melts…still lovely…but still dangerous.
Hope you are able to safely venture outside soon!

Ah, melting weather? Send the heat here in Buffalo, where we have -11 C weather right now! Thankfully, we don’t have snapping power lines whenever we have freezing rain. The last time we had that problem was during the October Storm of 2006, when wet snow fell on trees that still had leaves, and they were so heavy they snapped all the power lines.

Brrrrrr……….I am freezing now Zhu ;D
Happy New Year to you Zhu 😀
Wouldn’t it be nice if it was cheese?
Ha ha… I like my cheddar.
Mind you French cheese is probably better! ;p
Sounds like a good reason to stay inside with tea or hot chocolate and look out at the winter weather. Great pics, as always.

@Agnes – It looks good… but it’s cooooold!!!
@RennyBA’s Terella – Thank you! The weather was very cold in Ottawa again yesterday morning. It changes all the time… but it was definitely around -25C.
@Khengsiong – That’s the problem, a lot of power lines snap because of the ice. So far, not ours… that’s good.
@Rich B – We usually shovel but we have a small driveway. A couple of winter ago, we had so much snow we just couldn’t shovel anymore and we asked for help. There are always so many ads with people offering snow shoveling in the winter…! Otherwise, you can easily buy a snowblower at Canada Tire 😉
@Tulsa Gentleman – I agree, it’s indoors weather. Why I keep on going out… that’s a mystery! 😆
@Seraphine – Oh… spring… that’s like… 5 months ahead? 😉
@Nigel Babu – Lucky us, our mailbox was defrosted by the time we needed to get the mail. Phew! No kidding, one winter, my first paycheck was stuck in the frozen mailbox for a year. I was sooo mad!
@Beth – I did the smart thing: we drove to Toronto and that’s where we are spending the new year!
@Linguist-in-Waiting – Yep, it only melted for a day… Ottawa is back to freezing temperatures now.
@shionge – Happy new year!
@London Caller – Or blue cheese… mmmm…. blue cheese….
@Soleil – I wish I could stay in… but I wanted the pictures very badly! 😆
I like your photos very much. It reminds me of Ice Storm 98.
The one thing I really don’t like about this kind of weather is that everything wears out more quickly, cars, roads, buildings, bikes… It’s hot in Phoenix, but things tend to be well-preserved.

Gorgeous pics, Zhu. I loved the icy flower and the pedestrian traffic light.
How can something so beautiful be so deadly too?
