The Locks At Dusk

The Locks At Dusk
From May to October, tons of tourist flock to Ottawa, including a lot of Canadians who want to see what the heck the capital looks like. The city is busier than usual as groups gather in front of the Parliament, around the Byward Market or nearby the Rideau Center.
But despite its seasonal visitors, Ottawa is still very much a morning city. After the 5:00 pm rush hour, the business district empties out and the remaining souls usually walk towards the busy Byward, for a drink or a nice meal.
On Friday evening, I did exactly that.
After grabbing a bite with a friend, I hung out around Parliament Hill. The days are long now and it was still warm. I walked to the Locks, stuck between the Château Laurier and the Parliament, both big touristic spots in Ottawa.
But there was nobody else around at this time of the day. The sun was slowly setting and was giving a warm hue to the buildings around me. The water was calm, something very unusual since a lot of boats navigate the Rideau Canal in the spring. It took my eyes a minute or two to spot all the reflections in the water.
I walked around by myself, loving every second of it. The atmosphere, the peaceful flow of the river below me, the warm air and the pastel shades on the buildings around as the sun was setting on Ottawa. Beautiful, isn’t it?

Can’t count the number of times I’ve been to Ottawa (starting with the requisite Grade 8 school trip) — each time I’ve loved being there. It is such a beautiful, peaceful city. (You chose a great spot!)
Beautiful. I love walking…
Thank you for thelovely pictures. The “Under the bridge” picture is beautiful. It could be a visual aid for meditation. As I gaze at it I can feel myself being pulled through the bridge into the sunlit area to the right where yet another bridge is visible.
