Parks, the Perfect Place to Unleash my Dragon

Once upon a time, in my teens, parks were the place where you could: 1) hide when you skipped a class (not me, obviously) 2) smoke a cigarette discreetly (not me, obviously) 3) smoke illegal substances somewhat discreetly (still not me, bien sûr) 4) kiss and maybe more or maybe not with your boyfriend (not me either, come on!).

Now, parks are where I unleash the “dragon,” aka baby Mark (or the future sumo wrestler, as some dumb lady would say…). Mark has a lot of energy, more than Feng and I combined, and keeping him busy is a real challenge.

He crawls everywhere. And by everywhere, I mean including under the chairs where he will inevitably get stuck (no worries, he will let you know loudly when he can’t find his way out).

Since the weather is nice (when it doesn’t suddenly pour), I often take him to the park. At least, he can crawl on fresh grass and I sometimes even have the chance to send an email or two with my BlackBerry (the deal is off if Mark spots the phone in my hand—he will do whatever it takes to grab it).

Mark likes the swing. He enjoys looking around him (bonus if there are dogs or other kids around). He observes the grass as if it was some kind of funky edible carpet. He tries to pick up flowers.

I took this set of pictures this week, at the end of the day. Somewhat the light and the fact that Mark didn’t mind the camera highlighted some kind of precious childhood innocence, I find.
