Warm Weather Makes Headlines

Written by on March 10, 2010 – 12:58 pm22 Comments | 3 Read this

Just a few weeks ago, it was all ice and snow in Canada’s national capital. The weather had been mild by Canadian standards but we were still shoveling snow and wearing winter boots. We attended the Winterlude festival and we were skating (or eating beaver tails…) on the Rideau Canal.

We had weeks and weeks of snow and rain and frankly, it was turning a bit depressing (not to mention wet). This is what Ottawa looked like just two weeks ago:

And suddenly, it got warm. It surprised us all. Oh, nothing to get super excited about in most places around the world: it’s between –5ºC and 8ºC. But for us, this means spring weather. And it does smell like spring!

I was born on March 21st, so I’m a spring girl. But since I’m in Canada, I spend most of my birthdays dressed in winter clothes and shoveling snow. I just hope this warm weather is here to stay but I wouldn’t hold my breathe…

Hooray for warm weather! This winter has been so tough on me. Glad to welcome some warmer temperatures! I love your pictures, by the way. Everything always looks so picturesque.

you live in a beautiful city. i am always amazed at the photos you take. the nice thing about mild weather is you can get out more. well, that’s only partially true, because you take pictures even when everything is frozen and your camera is encrusted with ice.

@Lizz — I love hot weather but I, on the other side, would miss having four distinct seasons.

@Seraphine — I love beaver tails and I never ever joke about food! Well, almost never.

@Sidney — It’s a bit cold for us too since summers are very hot, 30+C. But for now, it will do.

@Max Coutinho — Spring feels great, it’s like being alive again!

@angela — I don’t know why, but this winter Europe got all the bad weather: snow, storms etc. It doesn’t happen often.

@Seraphine — Oh yeah, I already had this camera covered in snow (when we were in Niagara Falls in January). Winter is picturesque but I’m glad I’m gonna be able to resume my long walks without freezing.
