And now what?
We went to Panamá (in Panamá City, David and Boquete) and then to Costa Rica (in Quepos, Playa Coco, Playa Tamarindo, Liberia, Monteverde and San Jose). We tried to cross to Nicaragua but could not make it.
There is no way we are coming back to Canada now. So we bought a plane ticket to… Perú. We will arrive in Lima, and travel in South America for quite a while.
I´m not telling where we want to go because I´m superstitious and I don´t want to jinx it but you can expect more adventures along the way. South America should be… interesting. We have been there before, in 2002, but we rushed because we wanted to be in Brazil for the carnival and had spent too long in Central America. This time, we want to take the time to explore. That said, it is a huge continent and we can expect long bus ride, interesting border crossings and a varierty of lanscapes… and weather.
We have to leave from Panamá City, so we bused all the way back there. We were in San Jose and it took two days, including a one night break in David. Man, we gotta love these buses… But the border crossing was smooth and they didn´t even bother searching us this time. Not that we have anything to hide, mind you.
Panamá City is very quiet this time, unlike before Christmas. We have a few things to do before leaving on Tuesday, like reconfirming the plane ticket and buying toiletry products, but other than that, we have just going to rest a bit. It´s hot again and we are not used to it…. especially after being in the mountains in Costa Rica.
I can´t believe we have been traveling for almost a month now. It´s not that I don´t like Canada, but I really don´t feel like coming back right now. The routine gets to me and I love the freedom of traveling, even if it has its downsides. I don´t want to see the end of the road…

Have more fun! I wouldn’t want to go back to Canada now either:p
I have been showing your photos and reading your posts to my wife. Each one is like the latest installment of an adventure story. The history and archeology to be found in Peru is amazing. Go for it girl, as long as your money and energy hold out – and keep taking pictures. Thanks.
It seems that every time I open my Google RSS reader I see a new post from you and I get to see all the amazing photos you’ve been taking. Keep on going whilst you can!
Wow, Aren’t you just the world traveller? 🙂
HAppy new Year!
This is I suppose where we differ. I like what you are doing, but I cannot imagine myself traveling for more than a month. In fact, my summer travel last year, from July 3 to 30, 2008, broken down into 3 days in Helsingor, 6 days in Odense, 3 days in Copenhagen, 2 days in Budapest, 4 days in Vienna, and the remaining days back in Budapest while seeing what’s around it was tiresome. Mind you, this was not purely a tourism trip, I had a conference in Odense, and I inserted a few days before and after that for sight-seeing in other parts of Denmark, then I visited my folks in Hungary, so I wasn’t even exerting myself trying to see everything that there is to see. But the main tiring thing is the lack of routine. I guess my personality wants a clock, a routine, and obviously, while traveling, that is not possible. So as much as I would want to travel the way you do, you know, for months at a time, I know I cannot stand it. I just have to live vicariously through you!
Hey,
Visiting your blog is like visiting an old friend after a long time.
Its kool u r traveling and writing. I dont touch computer on holidays, because i do it otherwise, all the time.
i was about to buy a book on learning spanish, but i wont learn the pronunciation, so i dropped the idea, i have to find a tutor. then i sometimes wonder if i learn spanish, will it be easy to pick other European languages?
I don’t want to see the end of your road either. I love your adventure stories and all the wonderful pics.
Enjoy your trip to Peru! They wear yellow undies there for good luck. You may want to buy a pair…just for giggles. 😉
Hola Zhu!!
Y ahora te divertirás aún más, guapa!! 😀
Entonces, ahora es Perú, verdad?
Why would want to go back to Canada? It is cold up there!!! *BRRRRRRR*….
Anyway, girl…have loads of fun! And keep us posted…
BTW, you look younger!!
Cheers
Hello Zhu & Feng,
Well, you know that in France we freezing at this moment ( snow since Monday in the “Nord de la Loire”)!
Nah; you don’t want to know !
So all this travel in Central & South looks really really good
P***** as they say in your old country 😉
You are right to take advantage; you are young and it’s so easy!
So, take advantage a bit more before you hit the cold of the Northern hemispher.
Grosses bises et xx
I’m glad that you are enjoying your travels. Right now I’m looking at another snowy and icy day tomorrow here in NY and I’m envious at the warm (hot) weather you are enjoying right now. Too bad I don’t have the money to travel at the moment.
By the way, on Sunday I had the opportunity to meet my French penpal when she visited NYC. She was telling me her experience seeing an “American” protest and I immediately thought of you.
@Bluefish – Nah, we still need more traveling, it´s like an addiction!
@Tulsa Gentleman – Probably a few more months then! I love this trip. I feel I´m old enough to enjoy it and yet we have the energy. And blogging about it is a challenge I truly enjoy too!
@Adem – I have been posting quite a lot lately, that´s true! I was tired of blogging about Ottawa 🙂
@Art – Happy new year! Sorry for the lack of comments, I do read but I don´t have much time.
@Linguist-in-Waiting – Well, we are used to it so I don´t mind. Only once I was sick of traveling. In 2003, we spent 6 months in Australia and New Zealand and then 2 months at home, and another 3 months in Mexico, Guate, Belize and Honduras. I just needed a break after that, I was tired.
@anuz – Oh yeah, definitely. Spanish conjugations and French´s are almost the same. Italian is close too, and so is Portuguese (but the pronouciation is tough for that one though). Spanish is actually pretty easy to learn, especially if you can practice with a native speaker.
@Scarlet – 😆 I did not know that! Gotta buy some yellow then!
@Max Coutinho – I love this trip, it is a lot of fun! Yeah, Canada in January is a big no no for me 😆
@barbara – I heard that, my parents are actually gonna buy some wood because they are freezing in Nantes and well, EDF is EDF… expensive!Cold winters in France are hard, because old buildings do not keep the heat. Hope you are warm!
@silverneurotic – Gotta love these N. American demonstrations! 😆 We are going in the mountains after so we will be cold at one point.
OOOh, this is interesting. Never been to S America so I am really looking forward to reading about your adventures. 🙂
Happy 2009 by the way 😀
Keep travelling! I don’t blame you — it’s not something a person can do forever because the body eventually deteriorates and it’s tough to get around without getting creaky. Enjoy it while you can.
