My favourite permanent exhibition at the Canadian Museum of History is the “Canada Hall.” Beneath the 17-metre-high-domed ceiling, you stroll through life-sized exhibits recreating the memories and experiences of Canadian life from AD 1000 to 2000.
I didn’t know much about Canada when I first came here, and this museum taught me a lot. I still remember my first visit, back in 2002—I had found Canada’s history was fascinating and much richer than I would have expected, as a European, from a “new” country.
This exhibition manages to be fun, educational, creative and not tacky—quite a feat! If you ever visit the National Capital Region, I highly recommend it. This alone is worth the entry fee to the museum.
We ended our long visit with a walk through the First Peoples Hall that celebrates Canada’s First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, another side of this country that is equally as fascinating.
What a perfect idea for a permanent exhibition! What is better than showing people the history of their country, right? I think it’s suitable for everybody, whether he’s only visiting the country or he’s decided to live here. Thank you for sharing! I haven’t been there for a while so it’s good to see that it’s still there in all its reality and beauty.
I agree, it’s a great theme and it’s well executed!
