French love their pastries and chocolate, even more so around Christmas.
There are chocolate boxes piled up high everywhere in stores—Lindt, Kinder, etc., are among the favourite. People also love fine chocolate and the windows at the chocolatiers are like out of a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie.
Pastries are always a hit, from simple viennoiseries (pain au chocolat, pain aux raisins, croissants, etc.) to elaborate layered cakes. Traditionally, the French eat a bûche de Noël (yule log) at Christmas, a cake made from a genoise or other sponge cake, generally baked in a large, shallow Swiss roll pan, frosted, rolled to form a cylinder, and frosted again on the outside.
Other popular Christmas markets foods are “fun fair” foods, such as waffles (with Nutella, bien sûr), bretzels and beignets (donuts), nougat and gingerbread.
Beautiful! My sister made us some raw chocolate this year and it was AMAZING! Christmas is all about chocolate in many ways!
Yep, I agree. Christmas calls… I mean, begs for chocolate!
Those are some amazing food shots you have, I saw it first thing in the morning and it is making me drool. 😀
Trust me, I ate quite a bit!
