Fate is a great provider.
We ended up in Paraty totally by chance. One night, in La Paloma (Uruguay), we went to the local internet café to copy some pages of a travel guide we did not have and that we had borrowed from another backpacker.
The owner of the internet café was Brazilian. He asked us where we would spend the Carnival, and at the time, we were not sure. He told us to check out Paraty, a small city four hours from Rio de Janeiro. We did not know anything about it. Yet, we went… and we were not disappointed.

I can tell you right now Zhu, I would absolutely love this town! Great photos 🙂
Paraty sounds like one of those serendipity kinds of things. Pleasant surprises that are one of the joys of the kind of travel you and Feng are experiencing. Sometimes these end up being the memories you treasure most. Call it what you will, sometimes divine providence seems to work in your favor.
What a great place to go and what wonderful pictures.
You really can get a lot when visiting an internet café and talk to the locals 🙂
Wishing a wonderful and adventures week ahead!
It is full of ‘flavour’ if you know what I mean and yes what a relax atmosphere and beautiful place 😀
That quaint little church would make a believer out of anyone! I love how you can capture a city essence in just a few pics. They’re awesome!
Missed you.
Wow – now that looks like a great vacation spot! I love the boat photo the most but the rest are so colorful, how wonderful! 🙂
By the way, the pics were taken 2 wks ago on a walk in the city.. Yes it is much warmer out in Victoria than the east coast!
Looks like a nice town… who is that beautiful girl in front of the colonial houses? 😉
I thought carnival is only held in Rio…
I’m still amazed that you have time to post all these lovely pictures.
Paraty is nice! Loved the photos!
Off to the next one…
@Agnes – We were glad we found it 😉
@Bill Miller – It was definitely a great surprise for both of us, especially we really didn´t know what to expect!
@RennyBA – I know! Word of mouth… connecting with people, you know that, right? 😉
@shionge – Yes, and very picturesque as well!
@Scarlet – Love the way you say it! 😆 Maybe the key is to build nice places of worship 😉
@expatraveler – I´m amazed — it does look like spring! I thought you took the pics last year or something.
@Sidney – I thought I was hidden 😆
@Khengsiong – Mostly Rio and Bahía, but a lot of cities have their own carnival as well. Wait and see… 😉
@Bluefish – I don´t have too much time, because I don´t have my laptop. But I guess I´m addicted to blogging!
@Max Coutinho – Muito obrigada! (see, my portuguese is improving )
it looks beautiful from your photographs. i love the sky and the fluffy clouds. it looks warm, the kind of sleepy warm where you want to put your feet in water and daydream.
