Working class “La Boca” is a barrio of Buenos Aires, famous for its colorful houses and home of the Boca Junior soccer team. Italian immigrants settled there, at the mouth (“boca“) of the Riachuelo river, giving the place a strong European feel. Today, the pedestrian streets are popular among tourists and local artists, as well as tango performers. A few streets away is the home of Boca Junior, the Bombonera. Diego Maradona´s famous club is always packed with action and all the shops around the stadium sell fútbol memorabilia.

I’m really digging the photos, and enjoying the travel reports. I have to really plan on traveling someday; I have a request though…no pressure at all though. Could you photograph some food? I’m curious to see what’s out there.
beautiful. i wonder what it is like to live in such color? my house is mostly beige inside, the walls. it’s neutral, and shows the artwork. but you have to think it affects how one sees the world too. does living in color give you a better outlook on life? i bet it does. i bet it does.
Yes, definitely some food photos for us foodies out here. C’mon now, you guys aren’t living on peanut butter and baloney. What’s for dinner?
I’m sorry, I forgot to thank you for the colorful pictures. You can tell it is time to eat here and I am hungry.
You can sense it is a poor neighborhood but the colors turn it in something beautiful.
Hey I love the vibrancy of colours 😀 A certain kind of charm that is so intriguing 🙂 I LOVE it, I really do 😀
Woo, I love these rainbow colours. It’s so cheerful and bubbly.
What a pretty neighbourhood. Very interesting photos. Did you feel like you were seeing real life or is it more for tourists these days?
I’m really enjoying your travel stories!
Weee!!! I agree! Very pretty neighborhood! Must be so happy to live there! (even for a few days)
Yes, it’s colourful, but also it takes a photographer like you with an eye for details to capture it this beautiful way – thanks for sharing!
Btw: Happy weekend and VD 🙂
Great pictures, Zhu!!! Thanks for bringing a little of my home country to me everyday. I really cherish all your pictures and stories. I hope you’re having as much fun as your recaps suggest! 🙂
Latin Americans like colorful design. Wondering if this is the influence of native Americans.
@sir jorge – I took so many pictures of food since Central America, I just have to organize it and I will post it, I promise. 🙂
@Seraphine – I´d say it does. I mean, I would not want the inside to be too bright, but I love different colors.
@Bill Miller – I know, I know! I keep on taking pictures, and then I always find other stuffs to post! Okay, I promise, I will get to the (yummy) food.
@Sidney – It does make it beautiful and even though it is one of Buenos Aires poorest district, it is an icon of the city.
@shionge – It is a great place to take a walk and enjoy life.
@Bluefish – I wish Canada was as colorful, especially to contrast with the white snow!
@Liz – Oh, there is real life. Probably just the one pedestrian street (the caminito) is just bars, restaurants etc. but people deiniftely live around there. Especially close to the stadium… which is a bit crazy considering Argentinian´s passion for soccer (imagine the noise and the mess!).
@Baoru – Yes, it is cheerful!
@RennyBA – Thank you!
@Gabriel – I´m having a lot of fun — Argentina is a great country. Where are you from originally? Buenos Aires?
@Khengsiong – Or good paint commercials! 😆 I had never thought of it actually… houses are almost always painted, as well as advertising (ie no signs, just painted on the building).
Hey Zhu,
La Boca soccer team…they are notorious…or should I say that its supporters are notorius?
El barrio es verdaderamente lleno de color…Dios mio!!
Gracías por compartir tu experiencia con nosotros, Zhu…mi gustan inmensamente las fotos :D!
Dime: has danzado el tango?
