What a summer! It has been pouring every day for the last two months and we are all complaining about it. Winters are long and cold, so we need some nice weather during the
summer!

Nonetheless, the city is pretty quiet right now. Many people went to their cottages, some courageous souls even went camping.

Meanwhile, I’m roaming in the city with my camera. I took a walk in the central experimental farm the other day, between two downpours. The farm is centrally located and surrounded by the city of Ottawa (that’s how much space we have here!). Thanks to the rain, the crops are growing fast and the colours were quite nice.

    These are wonderful photographs. The top right and the bottom right are both wonderful. I wish they were wallpaper-sized, haha. THank you for sharing! 🙂

    How do you like your camera so far? The weather sucks in Montreal…thunderstorms…rain…Gosh, when will it ever end?

    When I read experimental farm, all sorts of things started popping in my head. I mean, is this for biotechnology stuff or exploring further possibilities in the field of agriculture? How great that allow visitors onsite!

    Zhu, awesome pictures as usual… I don’t know where I’d find a farm in Toronto! (Only in a picture in art gallery i think)!

    Nice photos as usual! There are a lot of wheat and corn over there. I would love to actually see how bread is made from such a plant: you know, linking the tall golden plants to the edible object that everyone puts their jam and butter on.

    Great pics as usual. There is something almost hypnotic about a big wheat field where the grain extends over the horizon. Wind blowing over the grain make the field look like water. Check my Wednesday photo.

    Great photos. I’d love to see a wheat field with my own eyes. That’s something I will never see in my own country or in Singapore.

    I think the amount of space in the US/North America is the biggest shock to me on this return trip, rather than the size of the roads and the cars. I can’t believe how big the yards are, and all the green space, and the large sidewalks. The buildings aren’t all crammed together to take up the least space possible or right on the road without any insulation from the noise of passers-by. I feel like I breathe easier with all the extra space.

    But a working farm in the middle of a major city? Even I think that’s amazing!

    @Lizz – Thank you! I you want the wallpaper version, go to my Flickr account, you can get the large size. Or email me!

    @Bluefish – I love the camera! Weather sucks here too. Floods everywhere, the water level is just so high…

    @Gledwood – It is, and lots of room!

    @rowena – I live right in front of the farm and access is free and easy. Just walk across the road! Agriculture Canada is located on site. Not sure which kind of “experience” they actually do, but I’d say it involve er… growing stuffs during the winter? 😆

    @Final_Transit – Thank you! I live right beside the farm, it’s only a 10 min, drive from downtown.

    @Linguist-in-Waiting – Thank you! I’d love to eat the bread too 😆

    @Agnes – Thank you!

    @Tulsa Gentleman – I agree! And I saw we had similar inspiration 🙂

    @aline – Not something I used to see in France much too!

    @au soleil levant – Yes, it’s pretty unique to Ottawa. People love this place too. Developers made offers several times, and for a while a new hospital was to be build on the land, but people would rather keep it as a farm/ field.

    It’s great to have a farm in the middle of the city. City kids can learn about farm life there…

    i remember a post you did a while ago about growing marijuana (“Canada Looking for Marijuana Suppliers”)- that’s what ottawa should be growing in that experimental farm.
    with all the money Ottawa could make, maybe you could help pay for a workable healthcare system in the united states.

    (beautiful pics, zhu!)

    The idea of an experimental farm a scared me as a child… as an adult I wonder what the fuck it is doing in the middle of a city, particularly the nation’s capital!

    Good shots ! The last one should go as your profile picture.

    Though I don’t know much about Canada’s integral things but I think I agree with Seraphine here.

    I once found myself wandering round a corn-on-the-cob field at dawn tripping out of my brains on weird “ecstasy” after a rave in 1992. It was one of the weirdest experiences of my life.

    Just thought I would share that with you …

    How beautiful! This brings back youthful memories for me, especially of running in the sunflower fields in Sens, France where my grandparents live.

    Also love running in corn fields. So magical.

    Very cool to see such an ‘urban’ farm… I’ve heard about it Detroit trying out such experiments as well.

    I had no idea Ottawa had an experimental farm like that. Pretty interesting! Yeah, this summer has really been something, no? I hope the weather redeems itself in August, though to be honest, I prefer the cooler temperatures. 22-24 degrees with much less rain, and then it would be perfect! 🙂

    @Khengsiong – Yeah, it’s pretty unique!

    @Seraphine – I wish you were in charge or the marijuana growing business here, I’m sure you would increase sales and the well-being of the country! 😆

    @Tanya – Thank so much!

    @beaverboosh – Yeah, sometimes I wonder too. As far as I know, the corn and the cows are normal… I think 😆

    @Cuckoo – Thanks!

    @Gledwood – 😆 Drugs are bad but yeah, I’m sure it must have been a weird experience. There is a reason why rave parties are always in fields!

    @Seb – And your memories bring me back memories or running in lavenders fields somewhere in Southern France… ah, the smell!

    @Brenda – I don’t mind cooler temperatures (well, lower humidex) but the rain really gets annoying. The far is located West, I live right in front of it… around Prince of Wales and Merivale road.
