Canadians like pets, and in residential neighbourhoods it’s common to see people walking their dogs after an early dinner, no matter the weather.
However, unlike the French, Canadians are well-behaved and they pick up after their dogs—streets here are not dotted with dog poop. In fact, the last time I saw… uh, a little accident in the middle of the street, was on Parliament Hill and the culprit was no doubt RCMP horses. Apparently, officers don’t have to pick up manure.
Some stores, including Roots, state that dogs are welcome to shop with their owner. However, after an incident this summer where a dog bit a greeter’s nose at Home Depot, many big-box retail stores moved to officially ban pets.
I think pets should wait outside. No matter how cute they can be, they don’t really need to follow their owner. I sometimes get annoyed when owners let their pets roam free and unsupervised—yes, I like your dog, can you please get it off me now?

Tying dogs outside is not a good idea, it puts them at greater risk to bite. The city of Calgary even forbidden dog owners to tie them outside on the street and that with a serie of other measure has made the number of dog bites decrease.
Personally, I like being able to pop into a store with my dog. I tend to avoid neighbourhood shops that forbids dogs!
I’m surprise French shops let you in with Akira actually. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a dog in a shop in France!
I can see why it’s convenient for you but I’m kind of allergic to cats and dogs and tend to avoid petting them for that reason (although my allergies are nowehere as bad as when I was a kid).
Oh! The dog does look really lonely! Here, in my hometown, many few people would tie their dogs outside the shop, cause many of them end up missing their dogs. Or they run away or be taken. > . <

Ah I agree. Pets should not be in public establishments, unless they are service dogs. As much as dogs can be cute and pretty, not everyone thinks that they are (including me).
That’s my feeling too, although I really don’t want to hurt dog owners’ feelings. I can see why bringing your pet in is convenient but it could be a problem for other, especially those who have allergies.
Walking the dog is fun but running errands with dogs around certainly cause alot of inconvenice to others.
I tend to think this way too.
