I knew the multi-frames mode on my Nikon D60 would come in handy one day!

“Is he walking yet?”

I must have been asked this question a thousand times lately. That and “How many teeth does he have?” Yes, the playground is a competitive place—mothers even discuss poop consistency over the swing.

Mark can crawl very well (he learned this skill in France this summer). He can stand, and can go up the stairs and can cruise around with support—for instance, he can walk around the bed holding on to the mattress.

But he hadn’t made his first steps.

Until October 12. Yes, Mark has a knack for timing—he walked on his one-year-old birthday!

I was on Skype with my mother and we were having the “he is walking?” discussion again. I sat on the floor and he stood there. “Come on Mark!” I said, expecting him to do the usual, i.e. crawling to me (yes, he is lazy, that’s his French side).

That is when he walked. Three real steps before crash-landing on my boobs (or what’s left of my boobs).

My mom, who had seen everything on the webcam, couldn’t believe it. Neither did I!

I called Feng who recorded his second-time walking ever.

We were so proud of him that we almost cried. Parents are stupidly emotional sometime… but seeing your baby walking for the first time is strange. He looked so… grown up!

On Sunday, we took him to Parliament Hill to let him practise his skills.

Bravo Mark! The pics are great. I’m just annoyed that you guys are still in t-shirts right in the middle of October. It’s colder in France.

Oh, it was -40C of course… we were just bragging to a foreign audience 😉

(Just kidding, we are having a gorgeous fall. But then, we don’t have spring so…)

    Congratulations Mark and Happy Birthday!

Great job Zhu! That was no easy feat. Here’s to another year and to having made it this far already.

Mark looks like a little boy (as opposed to a baby) in that last picture.

He does, doesn’t he! I like the toddler stage better than the baby stage I think.

He looks like he is enjoying his new walking skills. Now he will be getting into everything. Great photos of a beautiful family.

He looks so proud of himself! Good job, Mark!

(I’m totally jealous you are wearing a tank top outside in October…it’s cold and rainy here in the Alps, and I’m sick of all the “love this beautiful Fall weather!!!” posts on Facebook from Canadian family and friends :p

It’s getting colder though… and we don’t have spring, remember? 😉
