On our last day in New York City, we decided to save some energy for a night picture expedition. We ended up not pacing ourselves (we left the hotel in Long Island around 10 a.m. every single day and walked around Manhattan for about twelve hours!) but still found the energy to head to Brooklyn Bridge Park and Times Square to capture NYC by night.
From Brooklyn, Manhattan skyline was amazing. It was a hot night with no wind. The East River was calm and the night lights reflected into the water.
Then, we headed to Times Square, where all the billboards were lit up. It was busy as usual—I think it always is!—with tourists, locals, shoppers, performers, etc. We stepped into the huge Toys “R” Us, which has a 60-foot Ferris wheel inside the building, as well as a life-sized T-Rex dinosaur that roars. Seriously. I love Americans, they are kids at heart!
As we made our way back to Long Island, I turned the camera on one last time. “Er… I took 500 pictures in four days,” I told Feng. He shrugged. “It’s New York City, right? You had to.”
Oddly enough I love Times Square although it’s like a gigantic tourist trap, I wish I could go back this summer!
Yep, feel the same! Sometimes, “tourist traps” can be fun I guess!
Those are awesome night shots! My next investment in photography would be to get a small tripod so that I can have a steady shot whenever I need longer exposures for these night time shots.
By the way, there’s also a huge M&M store near Times Square, I think I enjoyed that a lot too.
WOW, Zhu, I’m loving the pictures of the NY Skyline… May I ask what photographic mode you used for these? Did you have a tripod?
I didn’t have a tripod, I used the fence around the river. Other than that, these are long exposures (Shutter mode), from 5 to 20 seconds. Glad you liked the pics!
I absolutely love your pictures of New York. Some day, one day I will go there and I would love to go to Toys RUs as well. Looks like it would be a hoot!
Great place to hang out, for sure… both NYC and the Toys’r’Us store! 😉
