After shooting the torch relay, I decided to stay downtown and to have a look at the night festivities on Parliament Hill. By the time I got there, I learned from two ladies (pictured below) that they would only start after sunset… I wasn’t going to sit on the cold waiting, like them, for a few hours. I headed to Chapters and grabbed a hot coffee.
By the time I could feel my toes again, the sun had set. I walked to Parliament Hill and realized that most of Ottawa had apparently showed up — it felt just like Canada Day, only 40C colder.
The lights on the Parliament were beautiful, especially with the thick blanket of snow that fell a few days earlier. Snow, however, it not cool when you try to set up a tripod — trust me.
Taking picture 1) at night 2) in the crowd 3) with frozen fingers isn’t easy, but I’m quite happy with the shots I got.
This must’ve been so much fun 🙂

This all looks like great fun, but is for younger and heartier folks than I. My idea of winter fun is to sit inside and drink hot chocolate. Merry Christmas!

@Nigel Babu – It was! I was surprised so many people showed up, given the cold and the fact Christmas is so close (shopping etc.)
@Tulsa Gentleman – You certainly needed a strong heart to stand the cold! 😆
Brrrr….so cold & so cool 🙂
I miss chapters! It looks like Ottawa always has a lot of parties to attend. I wouldn’t want to wait in -30c or more if I were you :p
Canada – colourful and cold… Brrrr…

那座Parliament Hill很像奥地利·维也纳的Rathaus?!
Queuing up?
不错,原来加拿大没被美国化…
还蛮英国的。哈哈…

@shionge – I know 😆
@Bluefish – Chapters is my favorite place during winter months. A vanilla latte and magazines and I can stay for hours!
@Beth – Me innocent immigrant like to stand in cold 😆
@Seraphine – TV? Are you kidding, we need power for that. We don’t have any power during the winter… don’t you know that? 😆
@London Caller – I don’t know this Parliament but I’ll check!
Canadians are indeed very British when it comes to politeness. Definitely not queuing like Chinese, thanks God 😆
Ha ha… We like to cut queue a lot, I know…
Terrible!

You know I love the Olympics and so much remember when we did the same in Norway before the Olympics in Lillehammer 1994.
