Picture of the Week – Maple Toffee

Maple Toffee (Half Eaten, I Couldn’t Wait!)

If you spend time outdoors and the temperature is below zero, you deserve a treat. At least, that’s what Canadians seem to think and this is probably why maple toffee is so popular.

Canada’s trademark sweet is maple syrup, and maple toffee is one of the derivatives. Boil some maple sap, pour it onto the snow and lift with a small wooden stick when the candy is hard. Et voilà!

The mix of clean cold snow and warm and soft syrup is heavenly.

The only issue with maple toffee is that it melts pretty fast and tends to drip on your fingers. Therefore it’s best to eat half of it before deciding the take a picture (ahem…).

You can buy freshly made maple toffee at most winter festivals in Canada. It costs about $3.00.
