It was raining the day we visited the Cachoeira Do Tobogã. What we did not know is that while we were having fun in the jungle, Paraty, the city where we were spending the Carnival, was getting flooded.
By the time we came back from the waterfalls, it was already 5:00 pm and it had likely been raining for a couple of hours. The bus station was okay, but as we took the hostel street, we stepped in the water, knee-deep. We managed to get back to the hostel (barefeet) where we learned Paraty floods quite often. The historical center floods at every tide (seriously!), and the district where we lived is below sea level, so it was even worse. Nothing to be worried about, but quite a pain to navigate the street when the water reaches your butt (and I swear, I´m pretty tall!).
The next day, the water left on the pavement offered beautiful reflections of the buildings.
A rainy day looks perfect in a paradise like that and you’ve captured the atmosphere so well!
I am with RennyBA — it looks perfect. Perfetto (is that Spanish?).
Venice in Brazil. If it rains like this often they must be accustomed to it. Another chapter in Zhu and Feng’s Marvelous Adventure.
Salut Zhu,
Wow !! You are going to remember that place.
I have not been around these past posts but thinking of you guys on your long trip. I have to play catch up !
That’s a hell of a lot of rainwater/ river overflow !!
See you soon and take care.
Bises,
Barbara
Ewww, water. Reminds me of streets in Manila after a huge typhoon…
@RennyBA – Thank you! S day of rain, I don´t mind, but the flood susprised me.
@Agnes – Perfecto maybe? I lost my Spanish to Portuguese!
@Tulsa Gentleman – It´s not too often apparently, or at least not as much. People were a bit freaked out!
@barbara – It was a lot of water, for sure! But it´s part of the experience 😉
@Linguist-in-Waiting – It reminded me of HK during typhoon season!
Hey Zhu,
Minha nossa…look at that! If I had been there the water would have reached my neck LOL LOL I am petite!
Loved the reflection of the church on the water…so beautiful!
I am loving your adventures!
Adeus!
haha. its funny how people build things where it floods. i think its better to leave the land as farmland or parks or something.
but it looks like you had fun. i love the pic of the people standing in the doorway.
It’s raining man! Don’t you want to sing that song when it rains.
