I loved Santiago, the capital of Chile.
We flew there from Arica, escaping the 32 hours bus ride through the desert. God bless discount airlines…
We took the bus from the airport, still half sleepy. I felt like I was in Europe: cobblestone alleys, streets names like “Paris” and “London”, newspapers and cigarettes kiosks, parks, fountains, kids playing around… An overall relaxed atmosphere, which made the city very welcoming.
We checking in an hostel (at the corner of “Paris” and “London” streets!) and went for a walk, looking for food. We ended up at the mercado central, a nice fish market where you can have a cheap lunch: fish soup and grilled fish with mashed potatoes, nice and fresh.
We walked around, caught an American movie, eat some more snacks from the panadería and slept for hours. It felt good.
We spent the second day visiting the Parque Metropolitano, a huge park nearby a bohemian district. We climbed on top of the hill to enjoy a full view of the city. We relaxed, bracing ourselves for the next stop…
… the end of the world. Patagonia, Terria Del Fuego, here we come!
Amazing! Everything looks so great. It’s snowing right now in Montreal :(.
I wanna come visit. Period. 🙂
Although quite exotic, I do understand you felt like being in Europe and coming from Norway; may I add a lot of fresh fish 🙂
What a contrast to Bolivia. I was friends with a european couple who spent their high school years in Santiago and described it as a lively place.
Fresh fish, panaderías, parks, endless hours of sleep…
It must be good to be you!
Maybe I should light a candle and say a prayer. 😉
Glad you flew and save the hours Zhu, hope all is fine & well. You’ve packed in alot this time and we get to enjoy this at home through you.
Cheers!
Mmmmmmmm look at all that good seafood!! And Yikes!! Those are like palm trees on steroids!! Looks like a wonderful time, I envy your trips!!
I love the views you take! It is interesting that the further south you go, the capitals of Latin American countries resemble European cities more and more.
Hola Zhu!
Mira, qué ciudad riquíssima!! This is my kind of city LOL…
As you described how relaxed you guys were, I was getting relaxed along with the text…super :D!
Ahora, me voy a Patagonia con ustedes…lol…
Hasta pronto!
