Getting Soaked at the Farm for the Love of Photography

“Juliette… did you get soaked again?”

“No, you think so?”

I take off my clothes and shake myself dry. I know the routine. I get soaked pretty often in Ottawa.

The summer months are hot and humid and thunderstorms are frequent. There isn’t much you can do. One minute, the sky is clear, and the next thing you know it’s falling on your head. Good luck finding shelter—unless you are downtown or there is a Tim Hortons nearby, you can’t escape anywhere. We don’t even have proper bus shelters at all stops.

Today, I deliberately chose to go out during the thunderstorm. I was about to do a load of laundry anyway, and I wanted to take pictures at the nearby Experimental Farm. The luminosity is better on an overcast day because clouds act like a filter, whereas direct sunlight will cast harsh shadows on flowers.

Okay, I got soaked. I looked like an idiot when I stopped at Tim Hortons to get a coffee on the way back, with my bright red rain jacket (hello Little Red Riding Hood!) and my camera wrapped into a plastic bag.

But I like this set.
