After the Egypt performance was finished, I was about to exit Major’s Hill Park when I noticed a strange procession making its way to the stage. Hidden behind bright red sunshades, Asian-looking girls and women were shyly posing for photographers. From the pattern of their clothes, I gathered it was time for a Thai dance, and once again, I hide besides the stage to watch the performance.
The best thing about Thai dance is that the slow and graceful movements are quite easy to capture on camera. The focus was clearly on mysterious hand movements and the women barely moved their feet. Smiling all along the performance, they gently moved their inches-long fake fingernails and shoulders to the beat of the music.
I loved the younger dancers, as they looked both scared and proud of what they were doing. Their faces and expressions were just beautiful.
Oh my !! Your photos are so detailed, they say everything.
I liked the facial expressions very much. Yes, you are right. They have certain grace in their dance. 🙂

Salut Zhu,
I just love it 🙂
When D & I were at the Salon de tourisme last year, we were able to ecperience the grace of Thai women. No dancing but vegetable carving which was very expert and delicate.
Such meetings make us want to travel everywhere in the worls and soak up the culture and beauty of different cultures. But on a practical side, it’s not always possible!!
Bises 🙂
Your pictures are beautiful – and so are those women.
I have a framed picture hanging in the living room of two precious, smiling Thai children which was taken by my son when he was in Thailand. Makes me smile every time I look at it!

Great pictures you have here. The Thai are a beautiful people, and they have a beautiful country that is worth visiting. Which is why it is on my list sometime, but in the meantime I hope that the chaos that Bangkok is under end soon.

Absolutely stunning and glad you have enjoyed the Thai dance. They are very exotic to say the least and isn’t it sad that they had this riot weeks ago? The land of smiles on people faces are all gone 🙁
i love the color, especially the gold and red. i bet you had fun photographing the performance. i like how you looked at the details- the fingernails and how the feet and hands were positioned.
great photos, zhu.

@Nisha – Thank you! I like taking pictures of details, especially when there are many details in the scene!
@Agnes – Can you bring me back some? 😉
@micki – Thank you! Yes, this little girl was really cute. She seemed to be a bit scared before the performance, but she was just great.
@Cynthia – Thank you! Avec ou sans champagne ? 😉
@barbara – Oh, I wish I had seen that! This is a culture I don’t know very well but yes, the girls were just so graceful.
@Beth – Thank you! These young women and kids also put a smile on my face! Smiling is contagious 🙂
@Linguist-in-Waiting – I think it’s pretty much over now, or so I heard on T.V. It’s never that easy to settle problems though.
@shionge – I know, I’m not familiar with the culture and the politics there to take side but a lot of bad things happened there lately.
@Seraphine – Thank you! I’m just jealous my fingernails are so short. And that I’m not even half as graceful! 😆
More gorgeous pictures! You have such a knack for getting just the right pose and mood into your pictures. Thanks again for sharing.

Thailand is one of my favourite countries despite it’s so close to my home country.
They’re very friendly and smile a lot!

Hi again,
Lovely, lovely, lovely!
Their garments are absolutely gorgeous. I love Thai dance: their movements are so all full of meaning and symbolism. Their gaze when performing this art form is also magnificent, isn’t it?
Have a great weekend, darling!
