We both passed out relatively late on Sunday night considering how little sleep we had the night before. We woke up early on Monday, relaxed and hungry.
We headed to Venice Beach and had breakfast in a small sidewalk restaurant, from which we could observe people coming and going. This is one of the best spots I have ever seen for candid portraits and street photography—locals seemed oblivious to what was going on around them and simply kept on rollerblading, running, singing or whatever activity they were into.
A side note about food… there seems to have only three main choices in LA: Mexican, Korean/Japanese food and fast-food joints. Food was pretty cheap, we paid about $20 for two for humongous portions. I didn’t spot a single supermarket though, other than the ubiquitous 7-Eleven stores. California may be the temple of healthy lifestyle but I don’t see how, I feel like I gained 10 pounds in 24 hours!

It looks great there and what a wonderful photo of you! 🙂 I want to go to California too! Waah! 😉
I know exactly where you ate ! I love Venice it’s one of the coolest and sketchiest place at the same time 🙂
Yes we usually ordered one main course to share otherwise alot of food will go to waste 🙂
Is Venice Beach the Muscle Beach? Where those muscle dudes come and pump their guns…
you should go to the “in and out burger” it’s supposed to be great for fast food-since that’s your options!
have a safe trip
Whoa. You can get a Jaegerbomb (the thing they call “The Earthquake”) in Venice Beach? Somehow getting a drink like that in a beach and not in a club is a little cognitively dissonant!
@Pauline – Thank you! California surprised me, it is a great place.
@shionge – You bet! I guess that’s why so many people have doggy bags.
@Cynthia – I kept on thinking of you when I was in LA (in a non-creepy way ). I loved your pictures, you were inspiring!
@kyh – Yep, it is. But I only saw old guys…!
@Rich B – Never hard of that! I’m not usually a burger person, pho is better 😉
@Linguist-in-Waiting – Yeah, I see what you mean… I guess it goes with the place.
Oh is it -15 there? 😛
I LOVE the “California Disasters” menu. Especially the Freeway one – a congested mixture of too many things in one place. Too funny!
