At the end of the day, we’re all just silhouettes against whatever light is left. We’re all the same, a bit tired, a bit hungry maybe, the day is over and there’s a place to be.

The world is in turmoil and I’m hanging out at the beach.

I couldn’t be more off topic… oh, wait, I was reporting on the 2020 São Paulo Carnival when lockdowns started in Europe. Don’t count on me for top trending topics, I guess.

I’m not disconnected, though.

I just don’t have anything insightful to add.

Let’s just say I’m offering you a break from daily depressing news.

I read them too. I explain to Mark that a nuclear war is unlikely for now. I listen to Feng who is feeling the pain of sticker shock—“enjoy Brazil, Juliette, the dollar is becoming worthless anyway.” Then I watch the 8 p.m. daily news on TV5Monde. It’s brutal. I never thought I’d see tanks, dead bodies, cities destroyed by airstrikes “just because.”

I’m anxious, angry and sad, probably just like you.

I have no idea what the fuck is going on. This is not right. I don’t understand—who in their right mind would deliberately choose death, destruction and suffering over… well, pretty much all other options on the table?

I feel powerless.

I don’t have much to offer. Ukraine doesn’t give a damn about my virtual support when citizens need food, shelter, medical help and more. Russian citizens stuck between Western sanctions and non-stop propaganda don’t deserve to be punished. And the world certainly doesn’t need more chaos after two years of COVID.

At the end of the day, we’re all just dark shapes against the dimming sky.

We all look the same.

Why are we doing that to ourselves?

    > Why are we doing that to ourselves?

Same reason as always: for the top 1% to get wealthier.

I’m always wondering who makes money in time of crisis–I wondered the same during COVID, just out of curiosity, not to start a conspiracy theory. It’s funny how shock we are that weapons we’re selling are actually used, BTW…

How does it work for you with rising gas prices? Basically, who pays more (for now), you, your company…?
