Feng and Mark’s flight back to Canada was at 10 p.m. so they were leaving around 6 p.m.
My own flight to the other side of Brazil was the next morning at 10:30 a.m., so leaving at 8 a.m.
We basically had a day to kill in São Paulo, all feeling anxious and sad.
Last day in Ilha de Santa Catarina. The challenge was to pick a nice beach—no point in wasting a sunny day—but not a favourite, otherwise we would never leave the island, too painful.
“I’d suggest the ‘Juliette rule’ from now on.”
“Which is?”
“You pick a lane and stick to it. You don’t change lane, ever. Forget about exiting or turning, you just go straight. It doesn’t matter if don’t end up where you needed to go, you don’t change lane.
Mark and Feng are going back to Canada—I’m not, not yet anyway. And as you may have heard, COVID-19 testing is now required for people flying into Canada, so we had to get this done in São Paulo.
The default Brazilian swimsuit is a bikini and 99% of them are thong bikinis. Nipples are properly covered but beaches are a festival of naked butts of all shapes and sizes—big or small, white or tan, toned or not.
I keep on finding mysterious bumps and scratches on my body if I pause long enough to pay attention to it.
