I’ve been spoiled with photo ops lately! A demonstration, the annual street market, the carnival (I skipped)… and now a huge fire. Nantes is definitely the place to be in March-April!
Yesterday afternoon, I started to smell smoke in the street but I couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. But today, when I went grocery shopping in the morning, I realized most streets just a block from my parents’ place were blocked with dozens of fire trucks, and that firefighters were working hard.
I don’t read local news so I had no idea what was going on. Turned out a fire started in a restaurant on Sunday and was still going strong. It was a recipe for disaster because the restaurant is located in a semi-underground mall between two pedestrian streets.
Thankfully, there were no victims but the streets are still blocked a day later and the fire isn’t completely contained yet.

Very colourful pictures.
In the portrait of the three firefighters, the one on the left seems so young!
Firefighters always look young to me for some reason!
Maybe it’s you – you brought chaos & unrest & adventure to Nantes! 😉
😆 That must be that. Watch out Ottawa, I’ll be back soon!
Salut Zhu,
Could there be a job for Zhu taking photos of events for a newspaper? Maybe the firemen thought that this was the press covering the fire!
Thank goodness; no victims.
People don’t usually like seeing cameras around them, but I usually don’t say anything–with a bit of luck, they do think I’m la presse locale 😆
Wow, Nantes seems to be a very happening city! And it looks rather warm too, compared to here, when winter finally decided to make an appearance.
It’s a bit warmer than in Canada, I can’t complain!
At least it wasn’t a car set on fire 😉
True! That doesn’t happen much downtown Nantes 😉
