I really shouldn’t have stepped inside the Mercado Central right after breakfast. No because I was grossed out by all the meat on display but because the food looked delicious, and I was full!
San José’s central market is located right on the busy Avenida Central and occupies an entire block. Outside, people sell fruits, veggies and lottery tickets and the latter seem to be by far the most popular stall.
Inside, it’s a mix of pura vida souvenirs, bags and accessories, meat and spices and sodas—these small food stalls offering set lunches for a small price. Locals seem to favour them and they were getting busy close to noon.

Repose-toi bien. Nous t’aimons très fort.
C’est d’la triche, t’es ma môman…
Oh, it’s Costa Rica!
Have fun, Zhu!
Thank you!
You know I like posts that involve food!
Is the food really different from Mexico or do you find it more or less similar?
Different, and honestly not as good. I will write more about food 🙂
It looks so colourful – something we are missing out on here in drab Ontario at the minute!
I hear you! A snowy landscape is so beautiful at first… and then it gets old.
