Turning 39 in Ubatuba wasn’t on my bucket list but I suppose I had to turn 39 somewhere and I knew it wouldn’t be in Canada when I changed my return date.
Sometimes I wonder how old I actually look. I mean, I have white hair and I lost my baby face a decade ago (ahem, sleepless nights with Mark?) but I noticed strangers occasionally act very protective or look shocked when I say I’m married and I have a nine-year-old son. It must be the fact I have yet to dress like a proper lady…
So, how do you celebrate a birthday alone in Ubatuba?
There was an apocalyptic downpour on Sunday—nothing surprising for locals but quite a shock for me, more on that later. Monday was marginally better, just some light rain and I didn’t get soaked, yay!
Still, bit too cloudy to go to the beach even though everybody assured me water was warm and going to the beach on a rainy day was very much a Ubatuba thing to do. Instead, I had an airhead day, getting my legs waxed and my nails done.
This year is a major improvement compared to turning 37 in lockdown in Canada and turning 38 in semi-lockdown exiled in France. As long as I don’t watch the news, I actually love my life—our life—and I consider myself lucky because I know what makes me happy, what gets me excited, and what I’m kind of good at.
Mark read me a story, Feng asked again what I wanted for my birthday, my siblings sent funny messages, my mum still doesn’t resent me for the painful 30 hours of labour 39 years ago, friends actually remember my birthday and sent messages. I didn’t celebrate alone, after all.
And I’m so having a decadent chocolate brownie for dessert.

Joyeux anniversaire !!
Merci!
Love your top! Happy birthday! Your guys are so nice with you, they are precious, letting you live your best life.
Oh, I let them live theirs… like Mark reported using the tablet for five hours today WHICH I TOTALLY DON’T APPROVE! 😆
haha reminds me of my son at that age! Oh well!
Really? Did he eventually… moved on to something else?? Give me hope! 😆
I think I’ll just stop the conversation right there. LOL!
Thank you for the headsup, I know what to expect in the next few years 😆
HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!!
Thank you!
Travelling soon? 😉
I already did lol! I came back on Saturday 🙂 Do you have an Instagram acct?
Ben oui, quelle idiote, tu es allée pendant March Break… j’aurais dû y penser! I hope you ahd an awesome trip. Was it okay? Did it feel good to finally go places? Not on Instagram because the blog is enough work for me but I can probably see yours, no?
Haha pas de probleme! The trip was great. Food was great, lot of walking and sightseeing. Saw family and that was really good, It did feel good even though i freaked out a few times when i saw people with no masks (Europe has less restrictions on certain places). It was tough being in the plane with N95, but we did it. Next vacation, i am sitting my butt on beach and doing nothing much except go in town for food lol.
I will send you some photos via email. Easier.
Yes, please, share some pictures! I haven’t seen you in ages, and yes, I know it’s my fault :-/
I’m used to not wearing masks now but I understand why some people keep theirs and it also depends on where I am, what I’m doing…
Ça se décompose joliment en nombres premiers.
Joyeux anniversaire !
Dingue, hein?
