Downtown Ottawa Construction Work, Ottawa, May 2012

Every time we go to Toronto, I notice that new condos have popped up by the freeway, or close to the Waterfront. There seem to be a never-ending supply of people eager to invest in real estate, despite very high prices (and crazy condo fees).

Although Ottawa doesn’t have as many prestigious condos, they are still popular here, especially in the downtown core. The past few years, I have seen quite a few new buildings popping up on Rideau Street, around the Byward Market and in the Bank Street neighborhood. Occasionally, entire blocks are demolished and construction work starts to build new offices or new condos. Some projects are completed very quickly while others can and will take years.

Nothing ever changed in Nantes, where I grew up, so I actually like seeing new constructions… as long as the pace of change is a bit slower than in Asia, where entire neighborhoods are demolished and rebuilt overnight!

In Nantes you still have that airport issue!

In Montreal too there a lot of crazy condo fees and most of projects are being built by the mafia!

In Paris, most of the new constructions are HLM :/

I’m not surprised and I doubt the airport issue will ever be solved. Maybe with the mayor as the PM now?

I hate HLM… it led to the problems we know.

Yeah, lots of condos going up here in TO – but it’s all the road construction that’s driving me crazy! However, they can’t do that in the winter…

Don’t get me started on road construction, same thing in Ottawa!
