Picture of the Week – Construction Work

Downtown Ottawa Construction Work, Ottawa, May 2012

Every time we go to Toronto, I notice that new condos have popped up by the freeway, or close to the Waterfront. There seem to be a never-ending supply of people eager to invest in real estate, despite very high prices (and crazy condo fees).

Although Ottawa doesn’t have as many prestigious condos, they are still popular here, especially in the downtown core. The past few years, I have seen quite a few new buildings popping up on Rideau Street, around the Byward Market and in the Bank Street neighborhood. Occasionally, entire blocks are demolished and construction work starts to build new offices or new condos. Some projects are completed very quickly while others can and will take years.

Nothing ever changed in Nantes, where I grew up, so I actually like seeing new constructions… as long as the pace of change is a bit slower than in Asia, where entire neighborhoods are demolished and rebuilt overnight!
