I know, I know, it’s slightly pathetic, I’m raving about spring a month after everybody did. But this is Canada, we don’t really do spring, we go from freezing to boiling in less than a day.
May was a very rainy month—we were starting to feel like on Noa’s Ark. But suddenly, on Rapture Day no less, the sun started shining and the temperature went up dramatically. It was the best end of the world ever. I mean, we chose to forget about it and hang out in shorts and t-shirts, a bunch of happy sinners we are in Ottawa. But if something had happened, it would have been a great day for it. Too bad those predicting the end of the world can’t do the math right. By the way, don’t you love the NYPD statement about doomsday?
“We don’t plan any additional coverage for the end of the world. Indeed if it happens, fewer officers will be required for streets that presumably will be empty.”
I love it. The police do have a sense of humour.
On Saturday, I went to see the tulips again at Dow’s Lake. Because of all the rain, they looked lovely and all bloomed at once. Look at these colours… amazing, isn’t it?

Zhu, your pictures are amazing… really! You’ve got to tell me how you boos those colors and make such an amazing zoom!
Thank you! I used a macro lens for these shots. As for the colors, probably the white balance 🙂
What a beautiful range of colors and so deep and intense. I missed our tulips so your post allowed me to play catchup.
Thank you! I try not to miss the tulips because well, we need to see some colours after the long winter!
i love all the beautiful photos of tulips. there is nothing like color to make spring look like… well… spring. and if it is the end of the world. i’d rather go down in a splash of color than be surrounded by gray.
Exactly! It would have been a perfect day for doomsday but I guess they were having too much fun above. 🙂
Those are amazing photos! You have a great eye! We really don’t get much of a spring season, eh?! 😀
Well, no, but when spring is here we know how to enjoy it!
I just finished the 14 posts you wrote while I was traveling. Your tulip pictures are outstanding. I took many photos of roses while in France and Vienna but I have not looked at them yet – I don’t have a close-up lens anyway. Three weeks away was hard on my knees and feet – my head is willing but my body is getting a bit old. I could not believe how expensive it was in Paris – the dollar is low right now. One Orangina 4.50 Euros or US$6.35 actually it was cheaper to buy wine as usual. I used to go to Paris twice a year to see my mom, in the fall and early spring. This time going in May was nice because it was warm and it did not rain once. I overloaded on cheese. My cousin is a gourmet cook and she knows my love of cheeses – goat cheese in particular. She had a platter with no less than 8 different cheeses every day! Miam miam!!
You have some neat posts to help the innocents who might get scammed. I enjoyed reading all your posts.
Welcome back! I hope you had a great trip.
France is very expensive compared to North America, except for cheese and wine. So it’s important to enjoy both of these treats 😉 Goat cheese is really good, especially when it’s fresh. Now I’m craving it!
That’s great; bloom on, Madame 🙂
It was about time for the end of the deluge! Though in your old pays, people wouldn’t mind being wet down a bit; the word “secherasse/ drought” is more and more on peeps lips. Even talk about 1976 and it’s famous drought is back…
Drought is serious business; we will see…
Wet,dry, cold or hot; some people will complain no matter what.
Yes; your quote is a gem; great sense of humor, Mr Policeman. Thumbs up 🙂
Ah you know how it is, too much rain is not good, too little rain is dramatic. This year has been a fairly wet one in most parts of the world, Australia was flooded last winter, and so was Thailand a few months later, as well as Canada and parts of the US. But la sécheresse is not fun either.
Wow those tulip shots are awesome! so much detail. well done 🙂
Thank you!
It’s beautiful!
Oh, I almost always get over to Ottawa for the Tulip festival, but I missed it this year. Thanks for the beautiful pictures, and the smile from the police statement. : )
Have you ever been? I’m sure you did! This year was a rainy festival although we did get a few really sunny day.
Ah, I don’t blame you. Even in Buffalo, spring was one month late. I think when we changed the times back to daylight savings time, the weather got confused and moved its time back one month instead of one hour forward.
😆 That must be the explanation! We have the same kind of weather I see.
Nice photos!
We were actually going to visit Ottawa last weekend for the Tulip festival – too bad we couldn’t. When does the festival end?
I think last weekend was the end of it. The tulips are probably still there though but they probably aren’t as nice with all the rain we had this week 🙁
